Regional preselection for the western zone of the international competition FameLab 2021 – Science for a better future took place on Monday, April 19, 2021, online. In it, each FameLab contestant had just three minutes to wow the audience and judges with a scientifically rigorous, original and interactive presentation, without the use of PowerPoint presentations or other resources.

Jury membersRadu Vasiu – Professor at the Politehnica University of Timișoara and President of the University Senate, Rodica Lighezan – Director of the Timișoara Regional Blood Transfusion Center and Lecturer at the "Victor Babes" University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Andrei Crăciun - Engineer, Coordinator of the digitization and data analysis sector at the University of the West - evaluated the candidates based on three criteria - content, clarity and charisma - and designated the three finalists of FameLab 2021 Timișoara.

Third place of the competition was obtained by Marina Adriana Mercioni – PhD student in the Faculty of Automation and Computers from the Politehnica University of Timișoara, who gave a presentation on artificial intelligence and how it can support education. On second place ranked Radu Murariu - first-year student at the "Victor Babeș" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timișoara, with a presentation on primary neural networks and their applications.

Ina Maria Carauleanu - first year student at the Faculty of Automation and Computers - UPT obtained first place and will represent Timisoara in the national final FameLab 2021 Romania. She won over the judges with a presentation about artificial neurons – explaining what they are and what they do for us.



The FameLab international science communication competition is organized by the British Council Romania and Cheltenham Science Festivals, is in its twelfth edition in Romania and takes place annually in over 20 countries.
